The Bizarre Truth About What Goes Down Drains

Our team has at Open-Drains have decades of experience working with all types of clients and situations. Fortunately, there has never been a job that was too big for us to handle and our customers always end up with their plumbing crisis solved. Over the past 40 plus years, we have encountered all sorts of items lodged inside of pipes, drains, and sewer plumbing. Just for fun, here are just some of the items that can end up causing a lot of trouble when accidentally rinsed or flushed down pipes.

Children’s toys

Ah, kids – they sure are curious aren’t they? If you’ve ever been a parent, grandparent, or caregiver you know that it only takes a few moments for a toddler to cause quite the commotion. Our plumbing team has found toys and other items down drains and toilets that were the result of a child’s experiment gone wrong. Thankfully, even the toughest toddler is no match for us.

Garbage or debris

Teens and adults are plumbing problem culprits as well, sometimes inadvertently clogging drains and pipes with garbage and food scraps that would be best suited for the garbage can. We find that while garbage disposals are great, they aren’t made to be as heavy duty as some folks may wish they would be. When in doubt, scrape your plate into the garbage can before rinsing off smaller scraps into the disposal. Trust us when we say that you will save yourself a lot of plumbing trouble by keeping most of your garbage in the trash can instead of the drain.

Jewelry

It only takes a quick bump of the counter or a slip of the hand to land your wedding ring or favorite bracelet down the drain. While these pieces of jewelry usually won’t cause a major flooding or plumbing emergency, clients are obviously very interested in getting their jewelry pieces back as soon as possible. In these cases, we rescue jewelry from drains or pipes, returning it to very happy – and relieved – clients.

If you find that you are having a plumbing situation, whether an emergency or not, the team at Open-Drains is ready to assist you. We give you quick and excellent service, at a price point that won’t break your budget.
